MyEverBright is a mobile application for homeowners who own a solar energy system.
In 2023, I led a complete redesign of this application and personally crafted all of the key features and interactions.
Lead Product Designer
EverBright
When I joined, EverBright was a fast-growing solar energy software solutions company. Their homeowner portal app was bare-bones and infrequently used.
EverBright needed an application that matched their ambitions and provided their customers a one-of-a-kind user experience.

As the lead product designer for a team of two, I was involved in every step of this project. My responsibilities included:

The goal of our research was to understand the needs and motivations of our users while building an in-depth understanding of our competitors and the greater field.
Below are the research methods I implemented. For a detailed summary of this research click here.
In-depth analysis of 9 competitors & 47 features
Analysis of existing usability & accessibility issues
Analysis of in-app user behavior & key interaction points
Information Architecture study with internal users
Sustainable design trends discovery & analysis
Series of 6 interviews & analysis of themes
Users typically used the app once or twice, then never again.
Application was not optimized for mobile devices and did not follow best practices.
Application was not WCAG 2.0 compliant and lacked key usability features.
App score was low, and negative feedback centered on login and billing experience.
Application was far behind our competitors in providing our users with value.
Users were getting lost in the app when looking for key features.
Competitors have been solving similar problems and share common design patterns.
Education, curiosity, and enjoyment were key motivators for homeowners engaging in similar apps to ours.

Once my team and I finished the analysis of our research, I began the strategy process. This included:
Information Architecture
New Feature Planning
Sketches & Wireframes
Stakeholder Review & Updates
EverBright needed a new design direction that was modern and future-proof, while staying true to the company brand. I created our new design direction using research and careful collaboration with leadership & marketing. You can view details on how I did this here.

Inclusive and accessibility-first design
Action-oriented color use
Elevation and depth leveraged as hierarchical queues
Light & dark modes
Optimized text for readability
Minimalist interface with clear focal points
With my creative direction set, I lead a user-centered redesign of the MyEverBright application. During this process I was responsible for:
We needed to give users a fully comprehensive, live view of their system that was easy to understand.
Below is an overview of my solution. To view a detailed summary, click here.

This animated graphic was designed to allow users to quickly and efficiently understand their system's status upon opening the app.
To ensure comprehension, I added interactive cards that users could tap to get educational breakdowns of each system element.

Real-time power flow at a glance
Accessibility-focused controls
Custom animations for every possible scenario
EverBrite needed a way to clearly and effectively convey battery charge, grid usage, and power consumption in their mobile application.
Below is an overview of my solution. To view a detailed summary, click here.

Real-time data with clear controls
Multiple selection & customization options for data
Optimal usability from testing & iterations
Comprehension enhanced with coloration

My redesign effort gave EverBright a clean, comprehensive, and accessible app to match their growing presence in the field.
I helped increase traffic to the the MyEverbright application by over 500% and engagement amongst our frequent users by 100% during the first quarter after launch.
This greatly surpassed our initial business goals and gave us pivotal visibility to our parent company, allowing us to increase our budget for team growth.
